Overview

The PhD programme is designed to prepare students for a career as an academician or a researcher in the public or private sector. The research in this programme is an in-depth investigation of specific research issue(s) related to a management discipline with the aim of enhancing and contributing to new knowledge in that discipline. Students are expected to have strong theoretical and research methodological foundations and be able to conduct their research fairly and independently.

The fields of study offered in the PhD programme are as follows:

  • Accounting
  • Finance
  • Marketing

Programme Structure

  • In the first semester, the Research Seminar Course will be conducted online. Students will need to travel to Malaysia before their Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVAL) expires, which is typically valid for 6 months. During this visit, they are required to stay in Malaysia for 6 weeks. During their stay, students will be issued a multiple entry Student Pass/Visa. The students will meet their supervisor for consultation and discussion on their research proposal.
  • Students must visit Malaysia once a year to renew their Student Pass/Visa, and the minimum duration for each visit should be 5 weeks.
  • The total residential requirement for international students is one semester, which equates to a minimum stay of 24 weeks or 168 days throughout their entire degree programme.

Eligibility Criteria

Qualification Requirement:

  • Relevant Degree: To be eligible, you must have a Master’s/MS/MPhil Degree that is equivalent to 18 years of education (Level 7, according to the MQF) in a related field with a minimum CGPA of 3.00.
  • Irrelevant Degree with Experience: If you possess a Master’s/MS/MPhil Degree equivalent to 18 years of education (Level 7, according to the MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 in non-related field, you can still meet the criteria if you have at least 3 years of relevant managerial work experience. You will also be required to pass a selection interview.
  • Irrelevant Degree without Experience: In the case that you hold a Master’s/MS/MPhil Degree equivalent to 18 years of education (Level 7, according to the MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 3.00 in non-related field and lack the necessary work experience, you must successfully complete a one-day online prerequisite course, which includes an assignment to be submitted after enrolment.

English Language Proficiency:

  • English Language Proficiency Letter from previous university; OR
  • All international candidates from countries where English is not a medium of instruction must have obtained a minimum score in Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) 550 or 60 for the Internet-Based Test or Band 6.0 for International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or its equivalent.

Admission Process

Step 1: Admission Application

  • Submit the required documents and RM 150 Admission Processing Fee. After due processing of your application, if the applicant fulfils the entry requirements, PBS will issue “Admission Offer Letter”.
  • Disclaimer: PBS never compromises on its merit and has certain selection criteria for admission, the issuance of Admission Offer Letter is entirely at the discretion of PBS. If any misrepresentation is found at any point of your admission or degree; PBS reserves the right to revoke admission offer letter and cancel admission in case of any misrepresentation.

Step 2: Acceptance of Admission & VISA Approval Letter (VAL)

  • On receipt of the “Admission Offer Letter”, you will submit the Acceptance Fee (RM 800), Student VISA & Health Insurance Fee (RM 2250) and Security Bond of (RM 1000).
  • PBS shall forward case to “Education Malaysia Global Services”- EMGS for the processing of “VISA Approval Letter” (VAL) on receipt of the above fee.
  • Once the VAL is issued, your admission process is complete, and you may apply for eVISA (Single Entry Visa) to travel to Malaysia.
  • Disclaimer: Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) is an independent body, the issuance of VISA Approval Letter (VAL) is entirely at the discretion of EMGS; the Admission Offer Letter or Payment of the Required Fee does not guarantee the issuance of VAL. EMGS may demand further documents from you to process your VAL Application.
